The NC GS Sharma Proposes a single term for the Prez and two terms for the PM

Kathmandu, 16 June : Vishwaprakash Sharma, the General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, has proposed a system that prevents the President from serving more than one term and the Prime Minister from serving more than two terms.

Sharma, accompanied by members of the House of Representatives, stated that it is necessary to establish a system where a minister can serve no more than three times and a member of parliament can serve no more than four times in order to improve the governance system of the country.

Speaking at the book launch event titled “Governance and the Ruler” held in Kathmandu on Saturday, he mentioned this issue.

“After becoming President once, I propose that we move away from the system that allows two consecutive terms. Let’s limit the Prime Minister to serving two terms. After three terms as a minister and four terms as a member of parliament, one should not be allowed to continue. We need to make improvements to the governance system, regardless of how capable an individual may be. It’s not about finding the most qualified person. By doing so, we can reform the governance system,” said General Secretary Sharma.

He also mentioned that political parties should not defend leaders accused of corruption.

“At a time when there is a demand to expel Nepali Congress leader Bal Krishna Khand, who is involved in the fake Bhutanese refugee case, from the party, I have taken a stance that the party should not defend any leader involved in such activities,” he said.

Since the leaders have been declared guilty by the constitution, laws, and state agencies, political parties should move forward by accepting the conclusions drawn by them, Sharma expressed.

“In my party, even an innocent leader will have to prove his innocence. It is not for us to decide who goes to jail. The court decides that. Congress, UML, Maoist or any other party should not defend anyone. And no innocent person should be falsely accused. Establishing such psychology is a step towards good governance,” said Sharma.
