The budget of the FY 2080-81 passes by a majority in the Parliament

Kathmandu, June 28 : The budget of the fiscal year 2080-81 has been passed by a majority.

In today’s session of the House of Representatives, Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat proposed to pass the budget.

The announcement of the passage of the budget was made by Speaker Devraj Ghimire, as the proposal had a majority in its favor.

As the announcement was made, the opposition party, Nepali Congress, demanded a division of votes, and accordingly, the budget was passed through a division of votes. The presence today was 255.

The main opposition party, CPN UML, had demanded a division of votes for the passage of the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2080-81.

In the meeting of the House of Representatives held on Wednesday, Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan presented the proposal to pass the budget. Speaker Devraj Ghimire had to rule whether he could or couldn’t, which led to the proposal being made for a division of votes. The announcement of the passage of the budget was made based on the majority seen in the ruling party.

According to Rule 29 of the House of Representatives Regulations 2079, which states, “If at least 18 members express their disagreement by standing in their respective places during the announcement by the Speaker, ‘Yes,’ ‘No,’ or ‘Vote’ on the motion, the Speaker shall divide the votes by any means deemed appropriate,” the names of the members who said “Yes,” “No,” or “Vote” from different seats will be recorded and a decision will be made in the session.

To pass the Appropriation Bill in the 275-member House of Representatives, a majority is required.
