Kathmandu, July 1 : Gagan Kumar Thapa, the General Secratory of the Nepali Congress, has announced that he is ready to resign as the GS post for the change to the Congress. He stated that he feels it is better to be a Congress worker rather than being the GS of a party that has lost its direction.
Speaking at a program organized by the Dolakha-Kathmandu Contact Committee in Kathmandu on Saturday, GS Thapa urged party leaders and workers to join the campaign for change in the Congress. He revealed that he is personally involved in the campaign for change in the Congress. He mentioned that old parties like Congress, CPN-UML, and Maoists have come together in crisis, as one person becoming the Prime Minister five or six times is not allowing the party to move forward. He also stated that in a democracy, there is no claim that one person can become the Prime Minister repeatedly without the country itself changing.
He said, “If the Congress changes, then the changed Congress will change the country. This country needs to change. Only the changed Congress can do this work. But for the Congress to change, we all have to be ready to change. I am ready to change. I have said this repeatedly – it is more fun to be a Congress worker rather than being the General secretory of a party that has lost its direction. I am ready to change. Everyone needs to be ready.”
Thapa, while urging the united party line not to think that the Congress has failed, also called on them to join the campaign to change the Congress and change the country by changing themselves. He stated that even though a coalition government can be changed, the Congress has decided to move forward by participating in the government with conditions and making policy decisions.
