The 102-year journey of CCP, with nearly 0.1 billion party members

Kathmandu July 1 : On the occasion of the 102nd anniversary of the establishment of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), a grand annual celebration was organized in China on Saturday. It was on July 1, 1921, that the party was founded in Shanghai, which was the most developed and modern commercial city in the peoples republic of China.

On the occasion of the establishment of the Communist Party, Chinese President and General Secretary of the CCP, Xi Jinping, emphasized the challenges faced by the party in its 102-year history and highlighted the perfection of the party’s organizational system to tackle these challenges, as well as the establishment of high-quality party member teams.

According to the announcement made by the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CCP on the eve of the anniversary, the party has approximately 9.84 million members.

Since 2021, this number has increased by about 1.33 million or 14%. It is estimated that the number of members will exceed 1 billion in the coming year. Currently, China’s population is around 1.4 billion.

On the occasion of the anniversary, General Secretary Xi, who is also the President of China, provided directions for the party’s construction and organization work. He stated, “It is not possible to achieve the rejuvenation of a powerful party in a short period of time.” He emphasized strict discipline in the party’s management, improvement of party members’ behavior, opposition to corruption, and the need to improve the organizational system.

The Communist Party of China aims to build a prosperous country through self-revolution and serve the Chinese people. President Xi mentioned this in his message.

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China held in 2012, Xi has continuously served as the General Secretary and has become the President of China. China has become the world’s second-largest economy and has referred to itself as a developed-oriented country.

The Communist Party of China has set the goal of achieving a medium-level of development by 2035 and becoming a modern developed country by 2049. The year 2049 will also mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the new PRC .

In the previous year, in October, during the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) held in Beijing, China presented a roadmap until 2049 in its report. The reforms and openness initiated by Deng Xiaoping in 1978 have successfully showcased China’s socialist system and development model.

According to the policies of Xi Jinping, the CPC has been working towards making China the world’s factory. Since a majority of goods produced worldwide are manufactured in China, it has been referred to as such.

As per the policy of the Communist Party of China, China follows a system where the central government, provincial, municipal, and district levels are operated by the Communist Party.

In recent times, the CPC has also mentioned its efforts in poverty alleviation under its leadership. From 2012 to the present, around 98.9 million Chinese citizens living in poverty have been lifted out of poverty, as reported by Chinese media outlets. China has also built 832 counties and 128,000 rural homes for poverty-stricken individuals.

Historical Glimpses of CPC

On July 1, 1921, Chinese youth workers gathered in Shanghai, China’s former territory, to establish the party, with the aim of liberating the working class and the people from feudal autocracy and foreign imperialism.

The CPC’s first national congress was held in Shanghai from July 23 to August 2, 1921. There were 57 members in the first congress, which took place in a small house in Shanghai, similar to a semi-suburb of France. At that time, the representatives demanding peoples democracy were only two individuals, Mao Zedong and Tong Pivu, when the proclamation of the democratic republic was announced in 1949.

According to historical documents “China in the New Era,” China became a republic on October 1, 1949, and the CPC came to power in China in its entirety.

After coming to power, the CPC held its first national congress openly in Beijing in 1956. Prior to that, the CPC’s congresses were held in the following places: the second in Shanghai, the third in Quanzhou, the fourth in Wuhan, the fifth in Beijing, and the sixth in Moscow, Russia. After the eighth congress, from October 16 to 22, 2022, all congresses have been held in the capital, Beijing. The sixth congress of the CPC was held in Moscow from June 18 to July 11, 1928. It was the first congress held outside China in the history of the CPC. In 1927, under the leadership of the CPC, the People’s Liberation Army was established. From 1931, Japan continuously invaded China. The seventh congress of the CPC was held in Yan’an in 1945, 17 years after the Moscow congress.

The 15th national congress of the CPC, held from September 12 to 18, 1997, decided to include Marxist, Leninist, Mao Zedong thought, as well as Deng Xiaoping theory and the important thought of the Three Represents, in the party constitution.

Since then, from November 6 to 15, 2012, the 18th national congress of the CPC elected Xi Jinping as the General Secretary of the CPC. Since March 2013, Xi Jinping has been the President of China. The 19th national congress of the CPC, held from October 18 to 24, 2017, incorporated the “Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era,” including the characteristics of Chinese socialism, into the party constitution.

According to the CPC’s ideology, the Communist Party of China is advancing towards the goal of a “Developed China” in the campaign for building development, by 2049.
