Kathmandu July 9 : 16 people have been killed in panchayat election violence in West Bengal, India.
135,000 security personnel were deployed in anticipation of violence in Saturday’s election. However, Indian media reported that 16 people died due to the violence in different places.
When bomb blasts, firing, vandalizing of booths and looting of ballot boxes took place, the security personnel looked innocent.
Workers of different parties are also included in the dead. 10 people of Trinamool Congress (TMC) have died in the violence. 3 people from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and 3 from the Communist Party of India (CPI) have died. The parties blamed each other for the violence.
In the midst of violence, till 5 pm on Saturday, about 66.28 percent voting took place. The election results will be declared on July 11.
Earlier in 2018 too, 10 people had died during the panchayat election violence in West Bengal.
