Kathmandu July 11 : In Solukhumbu, 6 people, including the captain, died in the helicopter crash of Manang Air. On Tuesday morning, the helicopter with registration 9N-AEM belonging to Manang Air, which was flying from Surke Helipad in Solukhumbu to Kathmandu, crashed in the Lamjura area of Likhupike Gaupalika-5. Solukhumbu Police confirmed the death of Captain Chet Bahadur Gurung and 5 Mexican tourists in the accident.
The deceased Mexican tourists have been identified as Sifuentes G. Fernando, Rincon Ismain, Sifuentes G. Maria Jose, Gonzalez Olacio Luz, and Gonzalez Abric Gonzales.
The Chief of Solukhumbu District Police Office, Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepak Shrestha, confirmed the death of 6 individuals in the helicopter accident. He informed that all the bodies have been collected at the accident site.
The Chief District Officer, Basanta Bhattarai, along with himself, had also gone to the accident site via helicopter but due to adverse weather conditions, it could not land. He stated, “There have been 6 fatalities in the accident. The CDO sir and I were searching at the accident site, but due to bad weather, the helicopter could only land in Likhupike Gaupalika Ward No. 5.”
According to him, a team from Beni Police Station and another team of 4 personnel from Kinja Police Station have been dispatched for rescue. However, retrieving the bodies has been challenging due to adverse weather conditions, as mentioned by DSP Shrestha.
After being unable to land at the helicopter accident site, the bodies were airlifted to Likhupike Gaupalika-5 for retrieval.
The Chief District Officer, Basanta Bhattarai, mentioned that an additional 21 individuals were dispatched to the accident site from Nepal Police and Nepali Army vehicles via Salleri from the district headquarters.
The Manang Air helicopter, which took off from Surke Helipad in Solukhumbu, carrying 5 Mexican tourists bound for Kathmandu, crashed in the Lamjura region of Likhipike Gaupalika-5. The incident was reported by the Beni Police Station, located in Solu Dudhakunda Rural Municipality-2.
