Socialist Front Conducting Practice on Party Structure

Kathmandu July 17 : The Socialist Front, in its declaration on Jun 19 announced the formation of a structured organization by conducting practices on party operations.

The Socialist Front, consisting of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), Janata Socialist Party (JSP), CPN Unified Socialist (US), and Nepal Communist Party, (led by Netra Bikram Chanda) declared its socialist journey on June 19.

The front has also aimed to expand its organization by establishing a new party structure.

According to Khadga Bahadur Bishwakarma, spokesperson of the Nepal Communist Party, the front has decided on the formation of central, provincial, and district structures and set plans for upcoming programs.

“The Socialist Front is a new political course that aims to take the country to a new direction, overcoming the problems brought about by the parliamentary system and the current various systems,” said Bishwakarma.

The central structure includes a 16-member central committee with four representatives from each party.

The committee comprises four party chairpersons, top leaders, and general secretaries from each party.

Similarly, for the provincial committee, a 12-member committee has been formed with three representatives from each party as chairpersons and general secretaries.

For the district structure, Bishwakarma stated that an eight-member committee with two representatives as chairpersons and secretaries from each party has been formed.

The front has established a modality of leadership change every four months at the central, provincial, and district levels.

“For the central level, Madhav Nepal will lead in the initial four months, and he will chair two meetings of the front during his leadership,” said Dev Gurung, Secretary General of the Maoist Centre, adding, “He can also act as a coordinator until Kartik.”

The recent meeting of the front held on Saturday passed the code of conduct, policies, and programs.

“We have established committees at the federal, provincial, and district levels,” stated Bishwakarma in an interview with media adding, “According to the decision of the Central Coordination Committee of the Socialist Front, it will be expanded to the municipalities within some time.”

In the meeting held on Saturday (July 15), the working team of the four parties presented a report.

Along with the passed report, Bishwakarma explained that the front has expanded its base at the local level officially.

The Socialist Front includes various socialist ideologies and parties such as the Nepal Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist), Dr. Baburam Bhattarai’s Nepal Socialist Party, Mohan Baidya’s Communist Party of Nepal (Revolutionary Maoist), Narayanman Bijukchhe’s Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, and Mohan Bikram Singh’s Socialist Thoughts, among others, to discuss and prepare for unification.

“Initially, there will be two phases of discussion. We will hold discussions and dialogues with parties having socialist and progressive goals to expand and strengthen the front,” added Bishwakarma.

Being committed to democracy and patriotism is the first prerequisite for joining the Socialist Front. However, the leaders have not set a specific criterion for leadership yet.

The front plans to hold mini-sessions and mobilization programs in all provinces for a month in the month of Shrawan.

Efforts are being made to include Dr. Baburam Bhattarai in the front as well.

Bhattarai was a planner of the front but was not present during the announcement.

“If there is a need to address some issues, it will be addressed. Baburam Ji is still part of the announcement; now, he needs to be included in the front,” said Vishwakarma.

Some have commented on the attempts made by the front to create new power.

However, the leaders of the front are not ready to accept such comments.

“Unity brings strength,” said Bishwakarma, based on the foundation of unity that can be seen in the front.

“It may take time to establish the same views and concepts on certain agendas, but the final journey can also be unity,” he added.
