Kathmandu July 21: Sunil Sharma, a Nepali Congress Member of Parliament, has sought the resignations of the Finance Minister and the Home Minister. He requests the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, as well as the cooperation of Finance Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat in the investigation of the gold smuggling issue.
He claimed that the Ministry of Finance, which includes the Revenue Department, and the Ministry of Home Affairs are aware of the unlawful entry of more than one quintal of gold.
During this period of grieving for the death of the Prime Minister’s spouse, news of 100 kilograms of illegal gold entering the country has surfaced. The Revenue Department reports to the Ministry of Finance, while security reports to the Ministry of Home Affairs. Both authorities assert that they were unaware of the gold smuggling.
He thanked the Prime Minister for transferring control of the National Investigation Department to the Prime Minister’s Office. “The Prime Minister deserves thanks for this,” he remarked. He suggested that both ministries should step up and publicly collaborate with the Prime Minister.
The gold seized at Tribhuvan International Airport was transported from the customs area to the Tribhuvan Airport Cargo Terminal.
Meanwhile, Jeetjung Basnet, a central member of the Nepali Congress, has accused Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha of omitting his name from the recent gold smuggling scandal.
During a Central Committee meeting, Basnet mentioned in the Gold smuggling case the names of CPN-UML Chairman K.P. Sharma Oli, Home Minister Shrestha, and Maoist VP Krishna Bahadur Mahara.
In reference to the Bhutanese refugee scam issue, Basnet stated that certain comrades had praised Home Minister Shrestha, adding, “Some friends were supposed to go to the Home Minister.” His name came up today. It’s something I’m aware of. I’ll request his resignation.”
“Our friends, do they know where the Home Minister is heading or not?” Basnet said.
