Quintal Gold Smuggling Case: Two Chinese Nationals Arrested Again from TIA

Kathmandu: Two Chinese citizens have been arrested again in connection with the quintal gold smuggling case, from Tribhuvan International Airport. Li Jialin and Liu Fuyan, who were about to flee to China from Himalaya Airlines, were detained by the Tribhuvan Airport Immigration Office last night and handed over to the police.The Immigration Office took them under custody overnight and handed them over to the police for further investigation.

The main suspects in the gold smuggling case, involving the smuggling of gold in the flight from Kathmandu to Hong Kong via the Pacific route, have been identified. Earlier in this case, another Chinese citizen had been arrested for attempting to smuggle gold out of the airport. Additionally, 18 individuals, including a Belgian national of Tibetan origin and Indian citizens, were arrested in connection with the same case.

The Immigration Office had requested the police to include the names of some individuals, allegedly involved in the crime, in the watchlist and later apprehended two Chinese citizens who were on the watchlist. The investigation is ongoing with the Central Investigation Bureau conducting a thorough inquiry into organized criminal activities related to the quintal gold smuggling case. Initially, the Revenue Investigation Department had seized the gold and carried out investigations, but later, the responsibility for the investigation was handed over to the Central Investigation Bureau.
