PM Prachanda will visit NY and from there to China on September 22

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda will participate in the 79th United Nations General Assembly on the 21 September 2023 and is scheduled to travel to the United States.

In a discussion with a team of editors on Tuesday, Prachanda made public the dates of his visits to the United States and China. He informed that he will address the United Nations General Assembly on the 21st of September after his arrival in the United States on 16th of September.

Following his participation in the UN General Assembly, he will stay in the United States for about 5 days. The 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly will begin in New York, USA, from September 10th.

From there, he will head straight to northern neighbouring country China. After participating in the UN General Assembly, he will visit China directly as per his previously planned itinerary.

PM Prachanda has announced a public itinerary for his travel to China from New York, USA on 22nd of September. He mentioned that he will engage in high-level political meetings on the 24-25 of September in Beijing .

He revealed that during his visit to China, there will be discussions about the construction of the Cross Border Transmission Line for electricity as well hydro-electricity purchasing agreements. According to the Prime Minister, this transmission line will be built from Kerung – Rasuwagadhi and Kimathanka in Sankhuwasabha eastern part of Nepal.

China had already shown interest in the upper Arun Hydroelectric Project in Sankhuwasabha. An agreement had been reached for the transmission line even at that time.

During his visit, the Prime Minister also indicated that agreements will be made for the construction of hydropower projects. He mentioned that he will also meet with the Chinese President, Xi Jinping.

In the course of this visit, the two countries have also planned to advance the Belt and Road Initiative that was agreed upon in 2017. He also disclosed that preparations have been made to advance development projects in Nepal through the BRI.
