Kathmandu: Chairman of the Nepal Communist Party (UML) and former Prime Minister, K.P. Sharma Oli, has stated that the friendly relationship between Nepal and India cannot be harmed by anyone.
Despite occasional rifts and strains in the bilateral ties due to various reasons, Chairman Oli’s belief remains steadfast that the relationship between the two countries cannot be permanently damaged.
Speaking at a program organized by the Nepal-India Friendship Society in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Chairman Oli explicitly mentioned that he desires that the relationship between the two countries remains strong and unaffected, even when facing some challenges. He emphasized the need to address the existing issues through open discussions and find solutions.
Reminding that the option of confrontation between the two countries is not favorable, Chairman Oli highlighted the importance of resolving issues and moving forward. He underlined the significance of placing justice and international responsibility at the center while elevating the bilateral relationship to greater heights.
He remarked, “I have said in many places – every country thinks about their national interest. While thinking about national interest, when justice, international responsibility, and nurturing national welfare are aligned, and when promoting equality is a common goal, then that’s not nationalism. If you prioritize your interest while supporting others, you provide justice. This is not how it works. We are always in favor of justice. We are always in favor of equality. We are always in favor of mutual benefit and respect. And we want to advance the relationship as genuine friendship.”
Chairman Oli further added that he recalls the idea that one should not confront, but rather address the problems and move forward together. He emphasized the need to keep justice and international responsibility in the center of both nations’ priorities to enhance their relationship.
“We believe in justice, we believe in equality, we believe in mutual benefit and respect, and we want to elevate this relationship to the form of true friendship,” he concluded.
