Kathmandu: In the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, there are 107 locations affected by high floodwaters. The Metropolitan City has identified these locations based on the initial preparation and assessment of flood-prone areas in various wards.
Due to the overflow of rainwater, gradual inundation, increased flow in drainage systems, failure of proper water discharge during the monsoon, and lack of proper outlets for sewage and runoff, many areas of the metropolis are at risk of flooding. This information was provided by Devendra Pokharel, Chief of the Disaster Management Department of the Metropolitan City.
According to Pokharel, around 95 locations out of the initial 107 identified locations are prone to flooding from various wards. The details for the remaining locations have been prepared by the Metropolitan City itself.
As per the information provided by the head of the branch under the Disaster Management Department of the Metropolitan Municipality, Deputy Inspector Vishnu Joshi, the areas that will experience flooding include Tukucha Khola, Dhobidhara Samsad, Nakshal Bhagawatibahal Chowk, Kesharmahal, and Jamal during heavy rain and overflowing.
In Ward Number 4, flooding is expected to occur in various 7 locations due to the overflow of Khahare. In the month of Saun, flooding occurred in Ward Number 6, affecting places like Patitataar, Saraswati Nagar, Shantinagar, and Ramnagar. Similarly, areas like Kumari Ghat, Gaurighat, Gangahiti, Gopikrishna, Sat Tal, and others have been affected by flooding due to the monsoon.
In Ward Number 8, places like Panchakanya Tole and Guheshwari Tole are at risk of flooding due to the overflow of Akashe Pani. Likewise, in Ward Number 16, areas like Sohakute Ganeshthan Marg, Airahiti, Dhunge Dhara, and Kharibot are prone to flooding during rainfall. Areas like Janata Marg, Panchakumari Marg, Pawan Marg, and Sahid Marg up to Ratopul from Kalopul, and Ratopul to Satopul have been affected by flooding due to continuous rainfall.
