Barahapokhari Rural Municipality of Khotang sold goats worth Rs. 17.5 million in Dashain

By Our Correspondent,Khotang, Oct. 22: Goats worth Rs. 17.5 million have been supplied from only one rural municipality of Khotang in the Dashain festival.

On the occasion of Dashain, about 875 goats worth Rs 17.5 million have been sold from Barahapokhari Rural Municipality of the district, according to the livestock branch of the rural municipality.

Traders have purchased goats from farmers reaching all the six wards of the rural municipality.

Chief of the Livestock Branch of Barahapokhari Rural Municipality Ashish Banjara said that all the goats purchased from the farmer’s houses were taken to the capital Kathmandu.

Five groups of contractors entered the rural municipality to purchase goats.

Goats purchased from all the wards of the municipality were transported to Sunkoshi River Dhaplanghat, the border of Khotang and Udayapur on foot.

Due to delay in the construction of the concrete bridge at Dhaplanghat, vehicles cannot cross the border, so traders transported goats by walking.

For a long time, the under-construction concrete bridge over the Sunkoshi River at Dhaplanghat has been standing abandoned.

Banjara said that after crossing the Sunkosi River at Dhaplanghat, goats were transported to Kathmandu by eight trucks and two boleros.

Some farmers have sold goats weighing up to 80 kg. Assuming the price of one goat is Rs. 20,000, more than Rs. 17.5 million has been received in Barahapokhari Rural Municipality.

Farmers of all wards of the rural municipality are raising goats.

One family has sold goats worth up to Rs. 500,000.

Some farmers themselves are selling goats by taking them to Gaighat in Udayapur. But most of the goats have been sold from the farmers’ houses.

Farmers said that if the bridge is not built, it will be a problem to supply agricultural produce from the municipality to the Tarai.

Similarly, brooms of amlisho worth millions of rupees are sold from Barahapokhari Rural Municipality every year.
