Myagdi (Beni), Nov. 20: A comfortable hostel building has been constructed at Nalanda Buddhist School at Tukuche in Thasang Rural Municipality-1, Mustang district.

The three-storey hostel building, constructed at a cost of around Rs. 130 million, stands on the premises of the school run by the Padmasambhava Charity Foundation.

The construction of the new hostel building has brought about significant benefits for students from the backward areas, including Mustang. Local residents and parents have expressed their joy, emphasising the improved accessibility for students to pursue their studies. 

Aban Tulachan, the school’s principal, highlighted that in addition to free education, the institution is committed to providing dormitory facilities for poor and underprivileged children.

The hostel will operate from coming March when all the essential items for it are arranged. The school’s physical infrastructure was constructed through the initiative of Dr. Mongoldhoj Tulachan, President of the Padma Sambhav Charity Foundation, who led the collection of donation support.

The building is equipped with a structure to maintain warmth even in cold weather. Currently, the school accommodates 215 students, spanning from grades 1 to 10, with the provision of free residential facilities.

Principal Tulachan mentioned that students from various castes and religions, hailing from different districts of Nepal and India, pursue formal education in Nalanda Buddhist school. 

He mentioned that in the upcoming days, plans include admitting female students to the school, which currently enrols only male students. He emphasised that all operational expenses of the school rely on donations. With the funds raised from aid and donations, the school has erected buildings equipped with facilities across its 150 ropanis area. 

Established in 2010 to cater to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, the school has witnessed its students, who participated in the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) two years ago, achieve noteworthy success. Over the past two years, the school has consistently delivered outstanding results in the Mustang district. Formal Buddhist education is taught through Nepali, English, and Tibetan textbooks, complementing the official curriculum set by the Nepal government.
