Kanya Puja performed in Dharan

Dharan, Nov. 22: Dhulikhel Society Dharan has organised Kanya Puja for the first time in Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City. 

Around 50 young girls were worshipped on Tuesday at a programme organised by the society, said Sunil Shrestha, president of the society. 

He said that there is a tradition of worshipping girls with the belief that such an act will bring happiness, peace and prosperity. 

Priest Ramesh Pradhan said that by worshipping girls aged below 10 years and above one year one will receive merit. He also gifted pencils, copies, food and other things to the girls. 

He further said that the nine forms of a goddess are found in girls aged between one and 10 years as they are pure.  As per the belief of fulfilling all the wishes, the girls are worshipped as goddess.  

Although it is customary to worship girls only from the Newar community, girls from other communities were also worshipped in the programme, said Shrestha.
