Ward chair organises students’ educational tour with his salary

Charikot, Nov. 22: Chairman of Ward No. 5 of Bhimeshwor Municipality, Dolakha, Basu Shrestha has arranged an educational tour for students of three schools of his ward to Kathmandu from his salaries. 

Shrestha said 102 students from Mahendrodaya High School, Budha Bhimsen High School and Ankura Boarding School, along with 10 persons from the school management committees were taken to Kathmandu. 

During the trip, they visited various significant personalities and important temples in the capital city, he added. 

According to him, students had the opportunity to meet several notable personalities during their visit, such as CPN-UML chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Dr. Mahabir Pun, Dr. Bhagwan Koirala, and popular actors Hari Bansha Acharya and Madan Krishna Shrestha. 

They engaged in discussions and shared experiences on various topics during interactions with these personalities.

The students also visited Swayambhunath and Pashupatinath temples. 

Shrestha said that the visit was named ‘intellectual trip’. 

He also expressed his confidence that throughout the journey, the students acquired additional knowledge across diverse subjects through interactions with established leaders of Nepal, he added. 

During their interactions with the significant personalities, the students engaged in discussions concerning relevant and pertinent issues.

Shrestha informed that around Rs. 500,000 was spent during the three-day visit.

He said, “My annual salary, which is Rs. 240,000 (monthly Rs, 20,000), will be used for the education tour every year. And if needed, I will supplement the insufficient funds from my personal resources.” 

The students returned to Dolakha on Tuesday after completing their three-day visit to Kathmandu.

Last year, chairman Shrestha utilised his salary to organise a religious tour of the senior citizens of the ward to the Pashupatinath Temple. 

During the visit, the senior citizens had the opportunity to meet with the then President Bidya Devi Bhandari and other notable personalities.
