Nepal’s largest cave remains neglected

Tansen, Jan. 9:Shiddha Gufa the largest cave in Nepal and second largest cave in South Asia, is a limestone cave, about 50 metres high and 430 metres deep, but this cave has remained in shadow for a long time.

Due to a lack of publicity, the Siddha Cave in Tansen-12 has remained unknown to the outer world.

Even the tourists who visit Rani Mahal doesn’t bother Siddha Gufa, although it lies on the way to Rani Mahal.

According to Buddha Bahadur Thapa, a local of Tansen-12, around 300 tourists visit Rani Mahal daily, but in lack of information they hardly visit this beautiful cave.

He further said, “If the cave is promoted, tourists coming to visit Rani Mahal and Tansen will also observe the cave.”

There are stones of different shapes inside the cave. Such natural structures can be an attraction to the tourists.

The cave can attract both domestic and foreign tourists but it is not promoted as much as it should have been, said Rajiv Kumar Shah of Nepal Tours and Travel of Palpa.

He said one could reach Siddha Cave on a 20-minute walk from the way to Rani Mahal. According to the locals, the cave was discovered in 1996. Locals are working to make the cave systematic and safe.

The entry point of the cave was made safe and an electric light have been installed inside the cave, said Tankanath Ghimire, president of the Cave Management Committee.

Locals are working to make cave systematic but no concerned bodies have paid attention to promote this exquisite cave.
