Kathmandu, Jan 11: Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) suspended the cricketer and former caption of the National Team Sandeep Lamichhane on Thursday. 

Chatur Bahadur Chand, Chairman of the CAN through a press release informed that Lamichhane is banned from playing both domestic and International cricket. The decision was made after Lamichhane was convicted of the rape by the Kathmandu District Court (KDC). 

A single bench of judge Shishir Raj Dhakal, convicted Lamichhane for raping a girl in 2022 on December 29.  

Lamichhane will be facing a jail term of eight years, fined Rs three lakh and has to give Rs 2 lakh as compensation, as per the decision of the KDC on Wednesday after being convicted of rape.
