Blooming mustard lures visitors

Myagdi, Jan. 22: With the mustard field in full bloom in Ratnechaur in Beni Municipality- 1 of Myagdi district, thousands of people are visiting these mesmerizing fields for leisure and photography.

Mustard seeds sown after harvesting paddy in November have bloomed into beautiful and vibrant yellow flowers, which has attracted many nearby people.

Ajay Milan Shrestha and Sirjana Shrestha of Beni Municipality-7, who reached Ratnechaur to participate in the 28th commemoration day programme of Om Bogati, the founding Chairman of Nepali Congress, were enthralled by the stunning mustard field and captured the scenery in their camera.

Similarly, people visiting Beni for different reasons stop by the mustard field at least once. A Nepali team including Dhanamaya KC who came to Pokhara from Japan also stopped by the field to take pictures.

A combination of green and yellow hues in the backdrop of snowcapped mountains makes Ratnechaur beautiful. But, after the construction of a pitched road in the middle of the mustard field in 2020, it caught the attention of many passengers traveling through the road.

Ganesh Bahadur Bogati, a local, said, “Ratnechaur has become viral because of the constructed road and social media. Its popularity suddenly rose after the road was built in an initiative of Bhupendra Thapa, the former member of the House of Representatives.”

Tek Bahadur Thapa, the Ward Chair of Beni Municipality-1, said that Ratnechaur couldn’t attract internal tourists due to a lack of promotion. However, many people came to know about the area’s beauty because of social media, increasing internal tourists, he added.

Ratnechaur can be reached at a 15-minute ride from both Myagdi’s headquarters Beni and Baglung’s headquarters Baglung Bazzar.

Mannu Rawal, former president of Ratnechaur Jagaran Group, informed that more than 200 to 500 domestic tourists visit the mustard farm every day. He said that the crowd increases during holidays.
