Kathmandu, Mar 18: Police have arrested Vice Chairman of the ruling CPN (Maoist Centre) Krishna Bahadur Mahara in connection to the gold smuggling case on Monday.
According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Bhim Prasad Dhakal Spokesperson of Nepal Police, Mahara was arrested from Pakadi, Mayadevi Rural Municipality, Kapilvastu, on Monday.
He said that the police team is preparing to bring Mahara to Kathmandu.
A high-level probe commission formed under the chairmanship of former judge Dilliraj Acharya to investigate gold smuggling recommended action against Mahara in a gold smuggling case on Sunday.
The commission had earlier taken a statement from Mahara in connection to the gold smuggling case.
