All forms of discrimination should be ended: PM Prachanda

Kathmandu, Mar. 21: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has viewed ending all forms of discrimination between the people.

Addressing a ceremony organized to mark the 59th International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination today PM Prachanda made it a point that achievement related to changes cannot be safeguarded without ending the discrimination.

“Although rights including fundamental rights of the Dalit have been enshrined in the constitution, untouchability-related discrimination has not decreased as expected at the grassroots level,” said PM Prachanda, “It is a matter of social shame that incidents of oppression, humiliation, exploitation, boycott, and beating and murder meted out against the Dalit due untouchability related discrimination have not been reduced as aspired for.”

Until and unless all kinds of discrimination, gender inequality, linguistic discrimination, and regional oppression, are removed, accomplishments made on change and discrimination in development cannot be safeguarded.  

Mentioning that there has been a significant contribution of the Dailt settlement in the political transformation of the country, said that Dalit settlement should be shouldered the responsibility of building a federal inclusive democratic republic with proportional representation and non-discrimination society. 

“It is the responsibility of the country to take caste untouchability and discrimination as a punishable crime and bring the criminals involved into justice, PM Prachanda said, “It is a basic right of every citizen to live with equality and freedom. However, even in modern times, Nepal has not been able to free itself from the mentality of the slavery era.
