We are committed to maintaining good governance, says Minister Shrestha

Hetauda, ​​June 27: Internal Affairs and Law Minister Ganga Narayan Shrestha of Bagmati Province has said that the provincial government is committed to maintaining good governance and bringing about prosperity. 

Speaking at an interaction programme in Hetauda on Wednesday, Minister Shrestha stated that prosperity would be possible in the country only by maintaining good governance.

As the provincial government is a new structure, it is slowly preparing the necessary laws to maintain good governance in the province, he said.

 He further stated, “It has only been seven years since the establishment of the provincial government, hence it is still a child.”

 However, he said that the government was providing service to citizens by maintaining good governance. 

Stating that the government is working to empower the province, he informed that they were making necessary laws and amending existing ones. He said that although the provincial government was working on the development of physical infrastructure, it had given priority to formulating the required laws. 

Emphasising that journalists and media will be strong only if democracy is strengthened, he emphasised that everyone should be responsible and accountable. He also said that the three-level governments formed after the establishment of the federal democratic republic should work to maintain good governance. Minister Shrestha further said that democracy would be strengthened only if the media disseminated the correct information.

 Secretary at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law Purna Bahadur Darji and the head of the Law Division of the Ministry Manuka Ghimire were present at the event. A working paper was presented by journalist Suresh Shrestha on the role of media in good governance.
