Continuous rain inundates over 100 houses in Dhangadhi

Kathmandu, Aug. 22: Continuous and heavy rainfall in several parts of the country in the last 24 hours have taken life of one person and injured seven others, according to Nepal Police Headquarters. 

Triggered by heavy rainfall, landslides in several districts and floodings in Tarai plains have inundated hundreds of houses, especially in Dhangadhi of Kailali district, according to our District Correspondent Abinash Chaudhary. 

Chaudhary added that hundreds of houses in Kailali have been waterlogged after continuous rainfall since early Wednesday. 

Settlements mainly in Kailari Rural Municipality, Bhajani Municipality, Gauriganga Municipality and Ghodaghodi Municipality have faced inundation. 

Flood in a local Kataini River has mainly affected over 72 houses in Kailari Rural Municipality. According to Disaster Focal Person Bhuwan Bakhariya, 36 houses in ward number five of Manikapur, 25 houses in Chhatakpur of ward number 7, and 11 houses in Bhangaha of ward number 8 have been waterlogged. 

Security teams have rescued some of the old men and women and children from the waterlogged places. 

According to the police, in Gauriganga Municipality, houses of ward number 7 and 9 of the villages like Mahadeva, Kamda, Shankerpur, Bhagawanpur, Bankhet, Rajiyar, and Mahuliya have been inundated. 

Similarly, a warehouse in Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City-3 in Bishalnagar has been waterlogged destroying the goods stored there, according to the police.

According to meteorological station in the district, the district has recorded heavy rainfall in different parts for the past several hours causing inundations and floodings in several rivers. 

According to monsoon-disaster update made public by the Police Headquarters, a woman died after being swept away by the river in Ramechhap. According to the update, 45-year-old Lokmaya Shrestha, of Manthali Municipality-10, died after being swept away by a river between Chankhu and Chisapani.

The deceased is a resident of Manthali Municipality-10. DSP Pradip Kumar Singh informed that the body was handed over to the family after post-mortem.

Similarly, a landslide in Raghuganga Rural Municipality-2 in Myagdi, injured two persons. The injured were identified as Pooja Khadka, 21, and Meena Nepali, 32. Rana Bahadur Thapa of Tinau Rural Municipality-3 of Palpa was also injured in another landslide on Tuesday night. 

Two persons were also injured in a landslide in Khandachakra Municipality-4 in Kalikot on Wednesday. The injured were identified as Chandra Prasad Acharya and Saraswoti Acharya. 

Also, Kabita Pariyar and Kanchan Pariya of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-29 were injured in another landslide. 

Postal highway obstructed  

Postal Highway along Manikapur section in Kailari Rural Municipality-5 has been obstructed after landslides fell in several places of the highway. Swollen river has come above the highway level, according to the District Police Office.

Landslide in Nagdhunga 

Meanwhile, landslide along Tribhuvan Highway in Nagdhunga near Chisapani, the main entrance to Kathmandu, has obstructed the two-way traffic mobility.  Later on, seven hours after the landslide, one-way traffic has been resumed after 5:30 pm. 

According to Nagdhunga Police In-charge, Inspector Hem Kumar Thapaliya, a landslide triggered by continuous rainfall blocked the highway. 

Inspector Thapaliya said that clearance of the debris began after landslide occurrence stopped and bulldozers were used to clear the debris on both sides.

Since the road came to an obstruction, two-wheeled vehicles were advised to exit Nagdhunga through Khanikhola, and four-wheeled vehicles were ordered to use an alternative route via Dharke to Sitapaila, said Inspector Thapaliya. 

Similarly, a house at Madhubani village in Godaita Municipality-12 of Sarlahi district has collapsed after continuous rainfall. A thatched bamboo-roofed house of Ram Aadhar Ram (Chamar) collapsed because of the continuous rain. No landslide has occurred in the place, said police. No human casualty was reported yet, said the Area Police Post, Madhubani. Property worth Rs. 15,000 is destroyed. Ram Aadhar Ram works as a labour and is the sole breadwinner to his family.
