Kathmandu, Sept. 5: Politburo meeting of the ruling CPN-UML concluded on Wednesday, deciding to make the party as the largest one in the upcoming elections.
In the meeting that began on Tuesday at the party central office in Chyasal, Lalitpur, 51 Politburo members shared their opinions on the annual action plan presented by the party’s General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, followed by Party Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s concluding remarks.
Announcing the decisions of the meeting, head of the party publicity department, Rajendra Gautam said that part Chairman Oli instructed the party’s leaders and cadres to advance with the objective of making the UML strong, resilient and a decisive force.
Addressing the meeting, Chairman Oli also stated that the UML would contest the upcoming elections alone, and ruled out the immediate left-wing unity, Gautam said quoting Oli.
Chairman Oli said despite various discussions about forming a left-wing front, it is not feasible, according to Gautam.
He also noted that since the Nepali Congress is now in a position to contest elections alone, the UML also has the opportunity to compete independently, informed Gautam.
Quoting Chairman Oli, Gautam said, “The Nepali Congress has claimed it will contest the elections alone. The UML has previously fought alone with the alliances, and we will continue to contest elections independently. There is no possibility of forming a left-wing front with its current policies and programmes.”
Gautam informed that the party was also set to advance discussions on constitutional amendment issues with the Nepali Congress.
Gautam said, “The issues raised about constitutional amendment should be addressed by first revising the constitution, and then making amendments based on that revision. We will proceed according to the agreement reached with the Nepali Congress on this matter.”
He stated that the government formed on the basis of the seven-point agreement inked between the Nepali Congress and the UML would continue and be brought to fruition.
According to him, Prime Minister and party chairman KP Sharma Oli has highlighted that the agreement between the UML and the Congress assures stability and the restoration of the economy.
Similarly, party chairman also stated that the UML was not a sewer for other parties. He also emphasised that the party would not tolerate the behaviours lacking character, conduct and morality.
According to Gautam, Chairman Oli has presented two options to those within the party who have shown
character deviations: either to leave the party or engage in enjoyment.
Chairman Oli presented this option after the meeting raised issues of undisciplined, unethical and characterless behaviour within the party, he added.
Although there are no issues with the party’s philosophy and ideology, Oli emphasised the need to focus on their practical implementation.
Furthermore, the party also made it clear that it would not tolerate any form of corruption, with a commitment to continuing its efforts to control it, he added. Gautam stated that meeting also decided to proceed with various tasks based on objective evaluation.
The meeting also passed 15 resolutions, he added.
The annual action plan includes party membership expansion and documentation, regular conventions of the party and people’s organisations, evaluation of party committees and leaders and cadres, he said.
Similarly, the action plan also includes effective mobilisation of the government and people’s representatives and reaching out to the people with the works done by the government.
