Nepal a role model nation, says Russian thinker Dugin

Kathmandu, Nov. 26: Russian political philosopher Aleksandr Dugin has said that Nepal has become a role model nation as it never became a colony and succeeded in safeguarding its sovereignty.

On Sunday, Dugin delivered a video address from Russia at a seminar ‘Emerging Multipolarity in the Context of South Asia’ jointly organised by the Russian Embassy, Russian House In Kathmandu, Far Easter Federal University of Russia, Mitra Kunja and Development Affairs Council in Kathmandu.

“Nepal has adroitly maintained a balanced diplomatic relation with two giant neighbours. It needs to address the concerns of two civilisations,” he added.

Stating that Nepal and India shared cultural similarities, he defined India and China as two poles of the world. “Nepal can play a special role in balancing the ties between India and China.”

As the Russian Orthodox Church has kept peaceful ties with Islam and Hindus, it is not involved in any form of conflict with them, he said.

Emphasising the dialogue between the civilisations, he noted that capitalism was not a worldwide system and it was necessary to fix its limit.

The meeting underlined the need for studying the multipolar issues that have become relevant in the view of globalisation changing world order. It concluded that Nepal could play a positive role in addressing regional and international concerns.

It was attended by former prime minister and respected leader of CPN (Unified Socialist) Jhalanath Khanal, general secretary of CPN-Maoist Centre Dev Gurung, Nepali Congress leader and Nepal’s former ambassador to India Deep Kumar Upadhyay and former minister Deepak Gywali, among others. Russian political philosopher Aleksandr Dugin.
