Nawalpur, Jan. 9 The commute on the Narayanghat – Butwal Road Section of the East-West Highway has become filled with hassles owing to thick fog and cold waves.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Resham Bohara of the District Police Office, Nawalparasi West, the road got filled with thick mud as the Chinese contractor company failed to work on the scheduled time and the ongoing cold wave and mist added to the problem by making the road slippery. This in turn has made the commute difficult.
Passengers said that they had to suffer a lot to cross the southern section of this road.
Simon Neupane, who was going to Butwal from Kathmandu, said that it took more than eight hours just to cross Daunne.
According to DSP Bohara, the road, which was completely blocked since 1.30 AM on Wednesday morning, started one-way operation on Thursday afternoon. But, the problem arose at night when the tipper slipped and hit three vehicles. The way one traffic has been resumed since Thursday morning.
Police said that there is a road disruption in Khursani Khola -4 of Bardaghat Municipality, Nawalparasi and the lack of alternative routes has made it difficult for vehicles to pass easily.
If the work had been completed in the stipulated time, the extension of the road section from Khursani Khola -4 of Bardaghat Municipality, Nawalparasi would been completed two years ago.
Now, it takes 5 to 8 hours to pass the Narayanghat-Butwal road section, which used to be covered in two hours. Some of the passengers have crossed the Daunne section by walking overnight.
Passengers have to suffer all the time to cross this road section because of road is under construction and due to the negligence of the Chinese contractor company
Efforts are underway to restore smooth traffic flow, but the conditions remain difficult, Bohora added.
