Minister Gurung, who is also the government spokesperson, told journalists after the Cabinet meeting in Singha Durbar that Prime Minister Oli will lead the Nepali delegation at the 6th BIMSTEC Summit, which will take place in Bangkok from April 1 to 5, 2025.
Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana and other ministers will also be part of the delegation, said Minister Gurung.
The Cabinet meeting decided to approve the visit of the entire delegation attending the BIMSTEC summit, he said.
The BIMSTEC Summit will be attended by the heads of government and state of member countries. Nepal sees this summit as an opportunity to strengthen both bilateral and multilateral relations.
Committee formed to recommend governor
Likewise, the Cabinet meeting has decided to form a three-member recommendation committee headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Paudel for the appointment of the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank.
According to Minister Gurung, the committee includes economist Dr. Biswo Poudel and former governor Bijaya Nath Bhattarai as members.
Further, the government has decided to continue the committee led by Om Prakash Mishra, the former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, to recommend appointments for two transitional justice commissions. According to Minister Gurung, the government decided to extend the term of the search committee and maintain the same committee.
The recommendation committee, chaired by former Chief Justice Mishra, includes former Attorney General Khamba Bahadur Khati, Dr. Arjun Kumar Karki, Stella Tamang, and one member from the National Human Rights Commission or a member appointed by the chairperson.
According to Gurung, the committee has been tasked with recommending the chairperson and members of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons.
Meanwhile, when asked about the dismissal of NEA’s Executive Director Kul Man Ghising from his position, Minister Gurung urged the journalists just to listen what the government spokesperson was saying about the Cabinet decision. “Who told you (journalists) that Ghising has been dismissed, has Ghishing himself told you or what, we don’t have made it so,” said Minister Gurung.
