Kathmandu : Nepali mountaineer Tenjing Sherpa (Lama) and Norwegian mountaineer Kristin Harila have set a new record by climbing 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks, including Sagarmatha (Mount Everest), above 8,000 meters.
According to Mingma Sherpa, the chairman of Seven Summit Treks based in Kathmandu, Tenjing and Kristine achieved the feat of climbing all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters in the world in the fastest time of 92 days.
Before this, Nirmal Purja had held the record for the fastest climb of all 14 peaks in the world in 6 months and 6 days. Tenjing Sherpa and Kristin Harila have now broken that record by completing the challenge in just 92 days. “They have broken Nirmal Purja’s record,” said Mingma Sherpa, the chairman of Seven Summit Treks, adding, “Nepali climber Tenjing, who hails from the district of Sankhuwasabha, has become the only Nepali to climb all 14 of the world’s highest peaks.”
The duo started their climbing journey on April 13 from Sisapangma, the 14th highest peak in the world. Among the approximately four dozen climbers attempting to climb all 14 of the world’s highest peaks, there are only a few women, including 37-year-old Kristine.
