Kathmandu: In the last fiscal year, Nepal Electricity Authority earned a profit of NPR 12.33 billion. According to the unaudited financial statement of the fiscal year 2078/79, Executive Director Kulman Ghising provided this information.
In the fiscal year 2077/78, the Authority had a profit of NPR 6.10 billion. In the fiscal year 2078/79, the net profit increased to NPR 13.37 billion.
Ghising mentioned that during the recent drought and reduced water flow in the rivers, the hydropower production of both the Authority and private sector hydropower centers was affected, and increased electricity import due to domestic demand further impacted the profit.
The revenue from electricity sales and other sources for the Authority, which was around NPR 81 billion two years ago, has now reached approximately NPR 118 billion, as per Ghising’s statement. He mentioned that the accumulated profit of the Authority has grown from NPR 11 billion to NPR 36.67 billion.
Issuing Shares to the Public
Ghising stated that the Authority is preparing to issue shares to the public. He explained that the process is underway to issue shares to the general public.
