Kathmandu : The geographical location of all countries shapes their geopolitical situation. The geopolitical situation is of great importance to us. The geopolitical situation is an important element that demonstrates our capabilities and limitations today. Solid knowledge of it assists us in understanding and implementing the challenges and possibilities of the Nepali path of socialism.
Nepal is situated between China and India, the world’s largest nations in terms of geography, population, and economy. Both these nations possess ancient civilizations. This uniqueness indicates that their aspirations are still soaring. China has emerged as a global power. Within a few years, it will become a significant economic power in the world. India, due to its rapid economic growth rate, abundant natural resources, and cheap labor, is on the verge of becoming a major economic power in the future.
The economic development of both these nations will bring about social changes, and their politics will impact the world’s economy and politics. The positive and negative impacts of their competition and cooperation will also affect us. Amidst this, we hold an extraordinary challenge and opportunity to lead toward a prosperous and socialist nation.
China, a socialist nation challenging the world under American leadership, is a country that stands in front of us. The whole capitalist world is now focused on stopping China’s rise through economic, political, diplomatic, social, and espionage means.
Until 2050, the national commitment of China to build a prosperous socialist society brings out the competition in world capitalism. In contrast, Nepal is caught in the web of global ideological conflict. Hence, we have an extraordinary challenge and opportunity before us, moving forward toward socialism and a prosperous socialist nation.
The rise of China has caused India to foster good relations with it and maintain anti-China activities with the Western power. Likewise, as the Western world intensifies its anti-China stance, India will be more secure. When both these Asian countries of ancient culture find themselves in the same place one day, Western tactics to weaken China can also be applied against us. This will lead to an intense struggle between capitalism and socialism, and its effects will affect the change in our politics and economy. For us, building socialism as a communist party in the midst of this chaos is an exceptional challenge.
The reasons for China’s rise have led India to establish good relations with it and conduct anti-China actions. Thus, the Indian policy of containing us remains intact. In this process, the Nepali rulers sometimes bowed and sometimes resisted. Nepal, despite geographical gains by Britain, was in the process of becoming a modern nation. In this sequence, Britain waged war against Nepal. Although Nepal’s territory shrank, it was successful in making itself free. While Britain tried to put Nepal under its shadow, it never succeeded.
Even after India gained independence, the British policy towards us remains intact. In this process, Nepali rulers sometimes yielded and sometimes resisted. While protecting our freedom and sovereignty, Nepal has arrived. Even though the British tried to put Nepal under their umbrella, it could not succeed.

Amidst arrival and departure, debts, and linguistic-cultural exchange, Britain’s policy remained constant towards Nepal and us. However, there is another aspect to our relationship. After the British expanded their empire in India, Nepal was in the process of becoming a modern nation. In this sequence, Britain waged war against Nepal. Nepal’s geographic region expanded, but it was in the process of becoming a modern and independent nation. Even though the British tried to influence Nepal by putting pressure on our rulers, it could not succeed.
After India became independent, Britain’s Nepal policy remained the same. In this process, Nepali rulers sometimes yielded, and sometimes resisted. Nepal maintained its freedom and sovereignty. Although the British tried to impose their influence on Nepal, they failed.

In this context, when we look at history, it is clear that Nepal-India relations are marked by a major contradiction. While the British were working towards making the countries of the world self-reliant and sovereign, we have the main trend of Nepal-India relations, which we need to place within a special relationship. Whereas the British aimed to put Nepal under its shade, which we now understand, the history of Nepal-India relations should be established as the main trend. This smart insight into history is essentially contradictory, and hence, Nepal’s relationship with India is also essentially contradictory. We need to remain prepared to face and overcome this contradiction in the future. This challenge will also be reflected in the future, posing challenges in politics and the economy.
The West is attempting to strengthen ties with India and stir against China as a result of the rise of China. Nepal is/will be used by the West in a number of ways to keep an eye on both nations.
