Beijing: To increase the number of Chinese tourists in Nepal, the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce and the Hangzhou City Tourism Board have pledged their support.

This commitment was communicated by representatives of the Shanghai Chamber during a discussion with a delegation from Nepal’s opposition Nepal Communist Party (UML) that recently visited Shanghai. The delegation, led by a representative from Himalaya Airlines, discussed the cultural ties between Nepal and China and the growth of Chinese tourism in Nepal.

Miss Jiao, a representative from the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce, expressed interest in exploring cultural relations between Nepal and China and engaging in discussions on the growth of Chinese tourism in Nepal.

In recent times, there have been discussions about Chinese assistance in the construction of the Pokhara International Airport, where Chinese airlines may operate flights. Kamal Gautam, a prominent leader of the Jifan Group, provided information on this collaboration in a recent statement.

According to him, discussions were also held regarding cooperation in promoting tourism in Lumbini, Pokhara, and the Himalayan region. Himalaya Airlines, in their official statement, mentioned their commitment to supporting tourists in necessary arrivals and departures.

In December 2022, a Nepali delegation, including Ganga Shrestha, Secretary of the Bagmati Province, Naresh Rokaya, Secretary-General of Annapurna VDC, Asmita Thapa, Deputy Chief of Likhu Rural Municipality in Okhaldhunga, and Kamal Gautam from the Jifan Group, visited Shanghai as the first Nepali team to do so. The delegation engaged in discussions with Communist Party leaders of Huzhou City and others.

The team, sent by the Central Office of the UML, also discussed matters with leaders of the Communist Party during their visit. Himalaya Airlines has been operating direct flights from Kathmandu to Shanghai since seven months ago.
