Road upgrading begins in Bakaiya

Makwanpur, Dec. 15: The upgrading of the road connecting Ward No. 4 and 11 of Bakaiya Rural Municipality has begun with the budget of the Bagmati Province government and Bakaiya Rural Municipality in Makwanpur.  The road is being upgraded to link the  Hetauda-Dharan-Chatara road with Kanti Lokpath by upcoming Dashain. Earlier, the Jureli and Goth Khola section of the route was blocked by a landslide.

The road section from Simat Ghumti of Ward No. 11 to Jureli of Ward No. 4 in the rural municipality is 16km long. Similarly, the road connecting Goth Khola through the same route is 17km long.

According to Gopal Lamichhane, Chairman of Ward No. 11 in Bakaiya Rural Municipality, the road construction project was initiated to facilitate the travellers.  He said that the rural municipality had initiated the construction work in July this year but the road got blocked by a landslide, and the work was halted.

The debris was removed and traffic resumed from Wednesday, he added.

The rural municipality had constructed the road track at a cost of Rs. five million after the second local level election.

After upgrading and blacktopping the road section, the distance from eastern Makwanpur to Kathmandu will be shortened.  For now, locals from eastern Makwanpur are compelled to travel a longer route to reach Kathmandu.

The Bagmati Province government has allocated a budget under the complimentary subsidy to upgrade the road section in the current fiscal year. The Provincial government and the rural municipality had allocated Rs. 10 million each.
