Country’s economy improving: Finance Minister Mahat

Hetauda, Dec 19: Finance Minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat said that the economy of the country is improving.  

Addressing a discussion program organized by the Makawanpur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) in Hetauda on Tuesday, the Finance Minister said that the economy of the country is improving owing to the progressive policies and programs taken by the government. 

He said that the government has taken the problems of the industrialists seriously and the negative impact on the economy has gradually decreased but has not completely disappeared. 

Saying that the problems have surfaced due to issues in financial management, monetary policy, and internal and external reasons, he said that the current problem has arisen because of over-investment in land and shares. 

Saying that the new sector of investment should be looked through properly, Mahat said that it cannot be fulfilled only with the efforts of the government, so, support from the private sector is needed. 

Krishna Katuwal, a member of the working committee of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce (FNCCI) said that the surging interest rate should be decreased. 

Krishna Kumar Gupta, Chairperson of the Makawanpur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI), said that a single-digit rate policy is necessary. 

Submitting the memorandum to Finance Minister Mahat, he demanded to remove the demand charge in the electric tariff.
