Ministry urges not to doubt on Melamchi water quality

Kathmandu, Jan 17: The Ministry of Water Supply has urged to not doubt the quality of water that is being supplied from the Melamchi Water Supply Project (MWSP) and is being re-distributed at the Kathmandu district from January 15.

In a press release, Under Secretary and spokesperson Mina Shrestha of the Ministry said that the quality of water being supplied from Melamchi is as per the standard of the World Health Organization (WHO). It is being supplied at the taps of each household after purifying and making it suitable to drink, so do not distrust the quality of water.

She said, “The water from Melamchi is distributed after its purification at the Sundarijal Water Treatment Plan as per the WHO standard. The water may come muddy for some time as there are remnants of sand in the pipeline which has not been used for quite some time.

The Ministry, agencies, production and distribution unity under it earnestly has urged to not listen to the outside rumours and doubt on water quality, saying that water becomes clean once the remnants are flushed out.

The news about the impurity of the distributed water from Melamchi came out after which the Ministry has made a press release today to clear it out.

Likewise, an inquiry agency has been formed to facilitate any issues with the water distribution.

The government has aimed to distribute 170 million litres of water in the Kathmandu district from the Melamchi Water Supply Project (MWSP).
