ADBL conducts financial literacy programme in Kalikot with participation of students and public

Kathmandu, Mar. 31: On the occasion of Global Money Week, the Agricultural Development Bank Limited (ADBL) conducted financial literacy training for the locals and students in the remote district of Kalikot recently.

According to the ADBL, it has provided financial literacy training to the students of Nanda Devi Multiple Campus and locals in Narharinath Rural Municipality of Kalikot in the presence of Pratap Subedi, Deputy General Manager of ADBL.

Subedi said that as technology-friendly banking transactions have become imperative, it is important for everyone to get knowledge about this.

He said that if students have knowledge about financial literacy in their life, the importance of a bank account, the benefits of doing business with the account and the precautions to be taken while doing business things would be better.

Highlighting the bank’s services, electronic banking services, loan and deposits, agency services and other topics, he informed the students about the importance of bank accounts, the benefits of doing business with the account, the precautions to be taken while doing business, and the accounting of family expenses.

More than 300 people, including local residents, students and Chairman of Narharinath Rural Municipality Nagendra Bahadur Bista, Ward Chairmen, Principal of Campus and political leaders also attended the programme.

Dr. Suroj Tandon, chairman of the programme and provincial director of the ADBL, said that the aim of this financial literacy programme was to contribute to environmental protection through green currency by creating a cashless society by means of online transactions through banks and financial institutions.

He urged the students to open an account in the bank and connect with the bank as the bank has been providing multiple services.

In the programme, Chairman of Narharinath Rural Municipality Bista expressed the opinion that the service provided by the bank is becoming effective and that arrangements were being made to provide social security allowance at ward office as well.

Similarly, Agra Bahadur Bista, Chief of Nanda Devi Multiple Campus, said that financial transactions would not only be accessible to students but also to common citizens.

 He said, earlier, only the employees of the bank used to know about financial transactions, but now students and the general public are also informed, this will help the financial transactions target set by the government of Nepal.

As the Agricultural Development Bank is a development player of the rural area, it is safe and reliable and has a wide branch network from the city to the village, he urged the people to take banking benefits by using banking products implemented by the ADBL.

Global Money Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness about the importance of financial education among teenagers and young adults. During this week, various events were conducted in Nepal from March 18 to 24.

This week was focused on the purpose of empowering children and youth with financial knowledge, skills and attitude as well as practical, and finally, to encourage them to make prudent financial decisions.

The ADBL had conducted a financial literacy programme in all provinces as Global Money Week with the slogan “Protect your money, protect your future”.

The provincial offices of the bank have conducted financial literacy programmes in 24 different places, including community schools over the Global Money Week. 

About 5,600 students have benefited from this programme, said the bank.
