Books reach Koshi Province schools prior to academic session

Biratnagar, April 8: Books have reached the community schools of the Koshi Province before the new academic session.

Earlier, many students were compelled to attempt examinations without reading as they did not get books even till the end of the academic session. But, there is a stark contrast in the situation this year as books have reached even before the start of the academic session.

The Janak Education Materials Center Limited said that the books will be dispatched before the academic session as the government has resolved the issues of resources, means and manpower.

The center started distributing books on March 26 this year as the new academic session of 2081 BS is closing in.

Chief of the Janak Education Materials Center Limited, Koshi Province Bhupa Raj Thapa, said that books have reached 12 districts out of 14 districts of the Province.

Books have been sent to other 12 Himalayan districts except for Khotang and Solukhumbu as they are distributed from Janakpur and Kathmandu.

Books used to reach in districts especially hilly districts only 1.5 months after the start of the new academic session because of lack of enough prints and timely printing. Books have been already dispatched to the hills, now the planning is to dispatch them to Terai districts.

He said, “So far, 41 per cent of books have been already bought and sold. All students have books in their hand on April 13.”

Prior,  Janak Education Materials Center Limited Books also did not use to receive books as per demand but the situation has changed this year as books have reached eastern Terai and remote hilly districts three weeks before the start of the session.

So far, 750,000 books have been bought and sold in a total of 1,600,000 books.

The center claimed that books would reach all the community schools of the province before the month ends.

The bookseller Khem Raj Poudel of Dhankuta Book Seller shared his experience of having the most easily and timely availability of books from 2014 to 2024.

Likewise, the other bookseller Shovit Timilsina also shared the same experience of having the easy availability of books.

Bookseller Shanti Ram Poudel said that he had received the books as per the demand for books.

A total of 122 booksellers are registered with Janak Education Materials Center Limited, Koshi Province. Schools distribute free books to children from Grades 1 to 10 by buying from these centers.
