Rains block roads to Nawalpur hill area

Nawalpur, July 9: The road that links the hilly areas with the plains in Nawalpur district has been completely blocked in two places due to continuous rainfall. With the destruction of the roads, transportation services between the hills and the Tarai have been halted.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Bed Bahadur Paudel of the Nawalpur District Police Office informed that the inner road sections under the Kaligandaki Corridor at the Tarange Khola in Gaindakot Municipality-3 and at Daldale-Ded Village in Pangre of Hupsekot Rural Municipality-5 were completely blocked by landslides.

Paudel said that the road had been obstructed for three days as the diversion of the Tarange Khola was swept away by flood. He said that bringing the roads into operation had been difficult since the flow of water in the river had not diminished.

He said that the landslides on the road of Daldale-Ded village cannot be immediately cleared. However, efforts to open the blocked road were going on, he added.

Meanwhile, vehicular movement from Daldale and Kawasoti to Kumsot has been halted since Thursday due to the landslide in Pangre of Kumsot-Pokhari section. According to the police, they cannot begin work to remove landslides until the rain stops.
