Kathmandu, Aug. 2: Nepal had a winning start in the CAVA Women’s Volleyball Nations League with a three-set victory over Sri Lanka. The Nepali team took full advantage of the home court with a 25-19, 25-18, and 25-19 triumph at the Dasarath Rangasala covered hall. They maintained their lead in the first and second sets, securing a 2-0 advantage. Although Sri Lanka took the lead at the start of the third set, Nepal fought back. Spurred on by home fans, they eventually won the set 25-19, earning three points. Aarati Subedi and Sumitra Regmi made their impressive debut for the national team.
In the evening match, defending champions India defeated Iran 3-1. India comfortably won the first two sets with scores of 25-20 and 25-18. Although Iran managed to win the third set 25-19, India dominated the fourth set with a 25-11 win. India will face the Maldives in their next match, aiming for a second win, while Iran and Sri Lanka will strive to bounce back from their opening defeats. Furthermore, Nepal’s next match will be against India on August 3rd.
CAVA Beach
In Bhutan, the Nepali women’s team won their first match in the CAVA Beach Volleyball Championship. They defeated Uzbekistan in two straight sets in Thimpu on Thursday. Kamala Pun and Manisha Chaudhary secured a 21-17, 21-15 victory for Nepal. The women’s category includes teams from Nepal, Maldives, Bhutan, and Uzbekistan.
Meanwhile, Nepal’s men’s team lost to the Maldives in two straight sets. Man Bahadur Shrestha and Dil Bahadur Sunar were defeated with scores of 16-21 and 15-21. In the men’s category, Nepal, Maldives, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Bhutan are competing for the title.
