Kathmandu, Aug 14: The House of Representatives today commenced deliberations on the Bill designed to amend the Investigation on the Enforced Disappeared Persons and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act (third amendment) – 2079 BS.
At the commencement of today’s HoR session, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli sought time from Speaker Devraj Ghimire to say something on the issue.
Commenting over the latest political understanding on the Bill, he said that it was a matter of happiness that the understanding was reached on the Transitional Justice Act after 18 years of the beginning of the peace process.
Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya, proposed the meeting to start deliberations on the Bill also known as the TRC Bill and it was accepted by the session unanimously.
The political address to the Bill including from the high political leadership has been scheduled today and the lower house is expected to endorse it today itself.
In the Tuesday’s meeting, the Law, and Justice Committee President Bimala Subedi presented the Committee’s report, 2081 BS in regard to the Bill.
Earlier, the HoR sent the document to the Committee for discussion and it was endorsed by the Committee unanimously on June 6. The three-member political task force was formed to find an agreement on some disputing provisions in the Bill.(RSS)
