Six ambassadors appoints, Thapa for permanent missions to the UN

Kathmandu July 15 : The government has recommended 6 ambassadors for the vacant positions in 7 diplomatic missions. The Secretary-General, Dr. Vaikuntha Aryal, publicly announced the appointment of 6 ambassadors in the diplomatic career list, who are the only career diplomats. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recommended 6 Joint secretaries for ambassadorial positions.

Lok Bahadur Thapa has been recommended for the important permanent mission to the United Nations in New York. He previously served as the Nepali ambassador to Belgium. Ram Prasad Subedi has been recommended for the United Nations mission in Geneva. He previously worked as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Nepali Embassy in Delhi and currently serves as the Head of the South Asia Division in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Sudhir Bhattarai, the Chief of Protocol, has been recommended as the ambassador to France. Joint Secretary Dhan Bahadur Oli has been recommended for Thailand, Tej Bahadur Kshetri for UAE, and Ghanshyam Lamsal for Kuwait.

The government has yet to make a recommendation for Canada. Ambassador Bhrigu Prasad Dhungana has returned to Nepal after completing his term as ambassador to Canada.

Recently, Amrit Bahadur Rai returned from New York, Maniprasad Bhattarai from Geneva, Krishna Prasad Dhakal from UAE, Durgaprasad Bhandari from Kuwait, and Deepak Adhikari from France after completing their respective assignments.
