After joining the government, the Maoists’ relationship with the populace soured: PM Prachnada

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has stated that the relationship between the Maoists and the people has become strained after joining the government. Speaking at the 20th Doramba Memorial Day program organized in Ramechhap District, on Friday, Prime Minister Prachanda mentioned that the relationship between the people and the party has also deteriorated since he joined the government.

“When we were fighting against feudalism and tyranny, our relationship with the mass of people was as close as water and fish,” said Prime Minister. “However, due to various reasons, that relationship has deteriorated over time. Now, with renewed determination, we are working to bring that relationship back on track.”

Prime Minister Prachanda emphasized the message of “peace, cooperation, and unity” and mentioned that the country needs a new era. He stated that there is still much work to be done for lasting peace, good governance, and prosperity in the country. “While we talk about bringing fundamental changes in the country in principle, it is not easy to bring daily changes in the behavior of the people. Somewhere, we have deviated,” he added.

“In the past, we were in a bloody revolution, but today we are engaged in a peaceful campaign for socialist transformation,” the PM said. “To make the socialist revolution successful against opposition and corruption, we need to be united with the people and form a strong anti-corruption stance. A new atmosphere will be created in the coming three months. Our party will emerge as a living, active party within the next three months. If that happens, the results will not be delayed, just like the 2008 first CA elections.”

Prime Minister Prachanda also stressed that his government is working towards ending widespread corruption and irregularities in the country and called for support from the public. He stated that his government is committed to good governance, social justice, and development. “We are united in good governance, social justice, and development,” he said. “I urge you not to be swayed by external disturbances caused by reactionaries.”
