Kathmandu, Aug 28: A free eye camp has been organised here at the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) central office in Kathmandu for the RSS’ employees and their families. Organised by the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) RSS chapter with technical assistance from the ASG Eye Hospital, over 120 people received eye checkup service from the one-day camp, said the organiser. The health camp was led by Dr Isha Prasain. On the occasion, RSS executive chair Dharmendra Jha, general manager Siddha Raj Rai, chief administrator Shital Prasad Mahato, deputy general managers, chiefs of various departments, and other employees had their eyes tested. On the occasion, RSS executive chair Jha and GM Rai thanked and praised the FNJ RSS chapter the work of organising the free eye camp for RSS employees while stressing the need for continuing it. Executive Manager at RSS, Shital Prasad Mahato thanked the FNJ RSS chapter for organizing the eye checkup camp as part of social responsibility, saying RSS management would extend support to such programmes in the coming days as well. FNJ RSS chapter president Pabitra Guragain said the FNJ is very serious regarding protecting the rights and interests and the health of journalists. She added that the eye camp has been organised in the interest of the RSS’ employees and their families. RSS Employees’ Association president Manoj Lamichhane and the RSS Employees’ Organization president Prem Prasad Upadhyay suggested giving continuity to such constructive programmes in future as well. RSS Employees Union president Kalika Khadka lauded the FNJ RSS chapter especially for organizing the eye checkup camp, stating that journalists who are busy writing news most of the time sometimes tend to neglect their health. ASG Eye Care Hospital manager Sanjeev Kumar Thakur shared that they have been conducting free eye camps at various organisations. According to him, the Hospital has so far conducted more than 500 camps in all the three districts of the Kathmandu Valley. The Hospital has announced a 10 percent discount on surgery and opticals to those undergoing eye checkup at the camp today. Optometrist Dr Isha Prasain said cataract was detected in three persons among those undergoing checkup in the camp. She added that most of those undergoing eye examination today were detected with short sightedness and not changing their glasses at intervals. Dr Prasain advised having eye examination in every six months.
