Kathmandu: Parliamentarians have expressed dissatisfaction over the government not making public the agreement reached during the visit of Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar.

During the meeting held at the Singha Durbar-based Law, Justice, and Human Rights Committee on Sunday, they demanded information about the agreement made during the visit of the Indian Foreign Minister. At the beginning of the meeting, CPN (UML) lawmaker Mahesh Basnet expressed dissatisfaction, stating that the government did not make the agreement with Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar public. The committee had directed the government to make the agreement with Jaishankar available on January 25.

“Why hasn’t the agreement and understanding with the Indian Foreign Minister been made public? Why didn’t the government follow the committee’s direction?” he questioned. “The government does not accept issues that need correction.”

He also mentioned that the government cannot overlook the committee’s direction. “Why hasn’t the letter of understanding from the agreement made on January 25 arrived yet? If the government has overlooked it, provide the direction now,” he said.

Similarly, Rashtriya Swatantra Party MP Santosh Pariyar also sought information about the agreement. “Why didn’t the matter spoken by the Prime Minister come to the committee? What are the agreements and understandings between the Nepal government and the Indian government? Why haven’t we received agreements that the Law Minister and the government are supposed to make available?” he questioned.

Committee Chair Bimala Paudyal mentioned that information has been sought from the government regarding the directive.
