Urlabari, Feb. 14: Youths of Urlabari Municipality in Morang district who have been living in Hong Kong collected money and donated it to their hometown to buy an ambulance. Urlabari Hong Kong Family donated Rs. 2,550,000 for the ambulance which will be operated by the Ward No. 9 office of Urlabari.
The service, which is free for impoverished families, has come into operation since January 28.
Yam Sembo, a resident of Ward No. 9 living in Hong Kong, donated Rs. 500,000 alone. Sembo and Sangehang Tumbahamphe had initiated the money collection campaign for the ambulance.
“Urlabari Municipality is preparing a directive regarding poor families. After it is implemented, a poor family ID card will be distributed. The ID holders will receive the ambulance service for free while other locals will get a 20 per cent discount,” said Nar Bahadur Moktan, Ward No. 9 chairman.
The municipality will cover the cost of the ambulance’s driver and fuel.
