Bhairahawa, May 20: With only two months left for the end of the current fiscal year, the Bhairahawa Customs Office has achieved only 51 per cent of its revenue collection target.
The Department of Customs has set a revenue collection target of Rs. 127.83 billion for the Bhairahawa Customs Office for the current fiscal year. But by the end of 10 months of the current fiscal year, the customs office has collected a total of Rs. 65.90 billion revenue.
Bhairahawa Customs Office could not meet the revenue target in any month of the current fiscal year. In the first month of Shrawan of the current fiscal year, the office had collected revenue of Rs. 6.49 billion. This is only 78.30 percent of the target fixed for the month of Shrawan.
In other months, the revenue has not been collected above 73 per cent of the target. In terms of amount, revenue of around Rs.9.03 billion revenue has been collected in the month of Ashoj. This amount is highest than other months.
The Department of Customs had set a revenue collection target of Rs. 12.32 billion for the month of Ashoj. The revenue collection has been declining due to decrease the import of goods this fiscal year as compared to previous years.
However, it has been seen that the import of 10 main items has increased in the 10 months of the current fiscal year compared to the last fiscal year.
According to the customs office, the import of motorcycles, jeeps, cars and vans, LP gas, electric cars, jeeps and vans and pickups and delivery vans has increased in the current fiscal year compared to last year.
Similarly, the import of petrol, glaze tile, MS billet, high speed diesel and marvel, among others has decreased.
According to Narad Gautam, chief of Customs Office, Belhiya, revenue of Rs. 28.36 billion has been collected from 10 major items in 10 months of the current fiscal year.
In the last fiscal year, revenue of Rs. 25.03 billion was collected from 10 main items. Similarly, the export of 10 main commodities has also increased in the current fiscal year.
In the fiscal year 2022/23, export of 10 major items goods worth Rs. 5.86 billion were exported. The major 10 items worth Rs. 8.39 billion were exported in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year 2023/24.
Mainly synthetic yarn, cement, cement clinker, various plant products, noodles, plywood and herbs are being exported from Bhairahawa customs office through Belhiya border.
