Ganeshman’s contribution for people’s rights and sovereignty priceless: DPM Singh

Kathmandu, Sept 18: The Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Urban Development, Prakash Man Singh has said that the contribution of Ganeshman Singh to fight for the rights and sovereignty of people has been invaluable.

Today, commemorating the 27th death anniversary of the Supreme Commander of the people’s movement of 2046 B.S and one of the founders of Nepali Congress Ganesh Man Singh at Shova Bhagawati, his son and the minister for urban development Prakash Man Singh mentioned that late Singh’s role has been invaluable in democratic movement of Nepal.

He said that to fight for the rights of people, Singh spent 15 years in jail and never compromised.

“We remember Ganeshman Sigh for his leadership in establishing democracy in Nepal and restoration of democracy after the coup of the King”, DPM Singh said.  He added that “ In the 6 decades long politics, he spent 15 years in jail during Rana’s and Panchayat rule and next 15 years in exile”.

Late Singh who was active as a member of Praja Parishad with the motive to end the Rana regime since 1997 BS before he joined hands in founding the Nepali Congress had declined to become Prime Minister after the success of the people movement of 2046 BS.

DPM Singh said that it is needed to learn a lesson from Ganesh Man Singh to keep the interest of the people and country above self-interest.

Minister Singh reminded Ganesh Man Singh of cautioning the congress leadership after the restoration of democracy.

The minister said “Democracy got restored after 2046 BS due to effort of all. So it is necessary to take all into the board. Nepal comprises of 4 castes and 36 sub-castes. We should keep in mind that at his time also he emphasized the idea of inclusiveness where those who have not got opportunity must be included in policymaking and political appointment in all the state agencies”.

Born on Kattik 24, 1972 BS at Chakasibari of Chhatrapati in Kathmandu, he passed away on Asoj 2, 2054 BS (September 18, 1997) at the at of 82. Singh was born into a well-off family in Kathmandu and joined the Praja Parishad, the first political association in Nepal, to protest against the autocratic Rana Regime.
