Police stalled by Chandrapur, Karnali register first win

Kathmandu, Sept. 19: Four-time champions of the Women’s League, Nepal Police Club, suffered a surprising stalemate in the ongoing season as the match against Chandrapur Municipality on Wednesday ended goalless.

The ball possession was heated in every areas except the 18-yard-box of both opponents. The inability to create better chances and convert them disallowed both teams to open their goal account throughout the 90 minutes.

It was the third loss for Nepal Police in six matches. Police played two ties against APF on September 3 and Army on September 14. Despite a confidence of not having difficult matches after facing the other departmental sides, Chandrapur’s defence stood as a sturdy wall for Police. Police now has 12 points in six matches and is in the 3rd position; Army overcame Police for the second position after Wednesday’s draw. On the other hand, Chandrapur is stuck on the sixth position.

Chandrapur, in six matches, has lost one, won one and played a draw against four others. The only win for Chandrapur was against Sudurpashchim (4-0) on September 13. The only loss was against APF on September 9; the match ended 6-0.

With three more matches in hand, Chandrapur still has a chance for reaching the Top 5 position and progressing to the second phase of the League. But Chandrapur still has to face Army on September 20, Koshi on September 23 and Waling on September 26.

Koshi, who was on the winning streak in the beginning and topped the table until Round 4, would not want to give points to other teams as the three departmental clubs have covered three spots and only two remain for the other seven teams.

On the other hand, Sudurpashchim continued their losing streak in the League after a 3-0 loss to Karnali in Round 6. Karnali’s Bhumika Budhathoki opened the account for Karnali in the 24th minute and Garima Rai (62nd minute) and Barsha Oli (63rd minute) made it 3-0 in the second half.

Round 6 of the League is concluding on Thursday with a confrontation between Bagmati Youth Club and Waling Municipality. While Waling is in fifth position, Bagmati can climb over Chandrapur with a proper win against Waling on September 19.
