Kathmandu: China is celebrating its 75th National Day on Tuesday. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China(PRC), Chinese citizens have demonstrated their patriotism by raising national flags in their homes, streets, and neighborhoods.

The Chinese government has granted a seven-day holiday starting today. This has provided the Chinese people with two special reasons to celebrate: National Day on one hand, and the extended holiday on the other, making them doubly joyful.

China has been celebrating National Day on October 1 every year since the People’s Republic was declared on this day in 1949.

The Communist Party of China, founded in 1921, overcame various political hurdles and declared the People’s Republic in 1949, leading to the development of modern China.

From 1840 to 1949, China experienced wars with various countries, internal conflicts, and suffering. For the Chinese people, who have endured hardships and humiliation during that period, the last 75 years are considered a golden chapter in their history.

Thus, the Chinese are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the republic with great joy and enthusiasm. Today, Chinese state television is showcasing stories of modern progress to the public.

Chinese state television CGTN has been presenting various accounts of China’s development journey since Tuesday morning.

After the establishment of the People’s Republic, China’s rapid development began with reforms and opening up initiated by Chinese reformist leader Deng Xiaoping in 1978. The television broadcasts have also highlighted the economic and developmental strides made under the leadership of the president, Xi Jinping, who assumed power in 2012.

Under Xi’s leadership, China has made significant progress in controlling corruption and alleviating poverty. The government under Xi has set a goal of achieving moderate development by 2035 and becoming a modern and developed nation by the 100th anniversary of the republic’s establishment in 2049. Despite being the world’s second-largest economy, China continues to identify itself as a developing nation. Recently, China has successfully lifted over 100 million people out of poverty.

This roadmap was outlined in the report presented at the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, held in October 2022.

Through President Xi’s leadership, China aims to take other countries on the path of development through the “Belt and Road Initiative” (BRI). So far, 150 countries have signed agreements to be part of the BRI, as reported by Chinese television.

Chinese Out on Vacation

Taking advantage of the seven-day holiday granted for National Day, Chinese citizens have set out to travel. The Chinese government has encouraged citizens to explore the country to boost domestic tourism. Tourist destinations in various provinces are welcoming Chinese travelers as part of an initiative to promote national tourism.

It is estimated that around 350 million Chinese people will travel during the holiday. According to China’s Ministry of Transport, about 170 million people have traveled daily by high-speed train alone.

The Ministry of Transport has made additional arrangements for trains, flights, and buses for the seven-day holiday, ensuring smooth travel through railways, waterways, air, and road. Chinese citizens are traveling to different provinces during this long holiday, and tourist spots are well-prepared to welcome them, according to Chinese media.

Some Chinese people are also traveling abroad during this holiday. Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Russia are expected to be popular destinations for Chinese tourists. Due to the direct high-speed rail service from Yunnan Province to Laos, many Chinese tourists are expected to visit Laos.
