Tatopani point accessible by ropeway

Chautara (Sindhupalchowk), Oct 4: The flooded Bhotekoshi River recently swept away a Bailey bridge at Larcha in Sindhupalchowk, cutting off road access to the Tatopani point along the Nepal-China border. The bridge, located along the Kodari Highway, connected the Bhotekoshi rural municipality-2 with China. As a result, the border village of Liping has also lost direct access to the federal capital.

Currently, the Tatopani point can only be accessed by a ropeway. According to Kumar Shrestha, Chair of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-2, the local government with the help of the Road Division Office has constructed temporary structures to facilitate the movement of people. It was possible with the use of two excavators and a tripper from the local government, with funding from the Office. However, the ropeway is not a durable or safe means of transport, he added.

Efforts to establish a makeshift bridge for vehicle movement are nearing completion, though the flow of the river remains high. It is expected that it will take over two days to finish the work. (RSS)
