Bill Gates Ends Prolonged Political Silence: Contributes $50 Million to Harris

Kathmandu, October 23 – After years of staying out of politics, Bill Gates, one of the wealthiest person in the world, has recently supported Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign. According to the New York Times, Gates donated around $50 million through a nonprofit organization supporting Harris.

The donation was intended to remain secret. One of the founders of Microsoft, Gates has not publicly endorsed Harris, and this donation signals a significant shift in his strategy, which had previously kept him away from such contributions, as reported by The Times.

According to The Times, in private conversations with friends and others, Gates has expressed concern over what a second Donald Trump presidency might look like. While Gates doesn’t have a deep connection with Kamala Harris, he has praised the Biden-Harris administration’s work on climate change. Gates’s philanthropic organization, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is reportedly worried about potential cuts to family planning and global health programs if Trump is re-elected, according to two individuals close to the foundation.

Gates is said to have made his donation to a group called ‘Future Forward’, which supports Harris. Gates shared details of his Harris-backed donation with his colleagues, including former New York City mayor Mike Bloomberg. Bloomberg has also considered making a similarly large donation. Gates’s contribution went specifically to Future Forward’s nonprofit arm, Future Forward USA Action, a 501(c)(4) “dark money” organization that does not disclose its donors. Thus, Gates’s donation will never appear in any public record.

Meanwhile, the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, has not only provided financial support to Republican nominee Donald Trump but also launched a lottery in swing states to buy votes. Musk’s actions have come under legal scrutiny. In this election, more than 150 former Republicans have endorsed Kamala Harris, including former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter Liz Cheney. Trump’s former Vice President, Mike Pence, has stated that he will not vote for Trump, while Trump has publicly mocked former presidential candidate Mitt Romney. According to numerous American media outlets, this election is poised to be the first in U.S. history where vote-buying and extensive use of foreign cyber-attacks have been widely reported.
